ToxSee — Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 13, 2026
What ToxSee does
ToxSee is a cosmetic and household product safety app. You scan a product barcode or photograph an ingredient label, and the app provides an AI-powered safety analysis of the ingredients.
Camera usage
ToxSee uses your device camera to:
- Scan product barcodes
- Photograph ingredient labels for analysis
- Photograph the front of a product when no barcode is found
Ingredient label photos are sent to our server for processing and are not stored after the analysis is complete. Front product photos may be stored on our servers to improve future results; they are linked to the product, not to your account or identity. No images are shared with third parties.
Data we collect
- Device identifier: A device-specific ID is used to associate your scan history with your device. For anonymous users, this ID is not linked to your name, email, or any personal account. Signed-in users' data is also associated with their account.
- Account information (signed-in users only): If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from your identity provider and associate them with your account.
- Scan history: Product names, brands, categories, and analysis results are stored on our server so you can review past scans. For anonymous users, no personal information is attached to this data.
- Ingredient label photos: Processed in real time and discarded after analysis. Not stored on our servers.
- Front product photos: When no barcode is found and the app photographs the front of a product, the image may be stored on our servers to improve future results. It is linked to the product, not to your account or identity.
- Avoid List: If you are signed in, ingredients you add to your Avoid List are stored on our servers and associated with your account.
- Favourites: Products you mark as favourites are stored on our servers and associated with your device. For signed-in users, favourites are synced across devices and associated with your account.
Data we do NOT collect
- Location data
- Contacts, files, or other device data
- Advertising identifiers
Third-party services
- Anthropic (Claude AI): Ingredient text is sent to Anthropic's API for safety analysis. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Open Beauty Facts: Product data (barcode, name, ingredients) may be looked up from the Open Beauty Facts public database.
- Sentry: Anonymous crash reports and error logs are collected to improve app stability. No personal data is included.
Data retention
Scan history is retained on our servers until you choose to delete it. Cached analysis results are automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity.
Important: Uninstalling the app does not automatically delete your scan history from our servers. You must use the in-app deletion flow before uninstalling if you wish to remove your data.
Your rights & data deletion
You have the right to access, correct, or delete the data we hold about you. ToxSee does not require an account — anonymous users are identified by device ID only. If you sign in, your data is associated with your account.
To delete all your data:
- Open the side menu in the app (tap the ☰ icon in the top-left corner of the Home screen).
- Tap Delete all my data.
- Confirm the deletion. Your collected data will be permanently removed from our servers.
If you no longer have access to the app (e.g. after uninstalling), you can request deletion by emailing toxseeapp@gmail.com. Please include your device model and approximate last-use date so we can locate your data. We will delete all associated data within 30 days.
Children's privacy
ToxSee is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision.
